A poem by Griffin Polley Originally written 3/31/2020 Dedicated to Jim Henson

Let me show you a world of illusion

A world where my creations roam

Free from the hands that control them

A street called Sesame, they call home

A place where I gave life

Though I don’t mean to gloat

Where my friend for life was created

From two Ping Pong balls and a coat

He worked with my pal Sam

Those were the early years

Back when I was lesser known

Before I heard children cheer

From then on, I held my friend

Through all the ups and downs

And made new friends along the way

From birds to fuzzy clowns

My friends starred in their own show

And I had a helping hand

To Fraggle Rock to Thra

I traveled to amazing lands

But then I heard a sweet voice, one morning

That called out to me

I took a hold of His hand

At the age of 53

It was then, I saw all my friends

Shedding tears of great loss

My dear old friend Big Bird

Sang a message I would always get across

It’s not easy being green

But I’m glad about my complexion

Because I brought everyone together

With a rainbow connection

As for my friend, I still see him

I still watch him every single day

With old friends I sit and laugh

Because I’ll know he’ll always stay
